Gagnon, Savary Take Control After Second Round of NH Junior at Mt. Washington

Posted: June 30, 2026

Bretton Woods, NH – With 36 holes complete, the championship picture has come into focus at the New Hampshire Junior Amateur Championship at Mt. Washington Resort Golf Club. Grey Gagnon and Mady Savary each maintained their stellar play through Tuesday’s second round and will take sizable leads into Wednesday’s final round as they look to capture New Hampshire’s premier junior titles.

Boys Division

Grey Gagnon continued to separate himself from the field, following his opening-round 66 with an even-par 72 to reach 9-under-par 135, giving him a three-shot advantage heading into the championship’s final 18 holes.

While the putter wasn’t quite as hot as it was during Monday’s opening round, Gagnon once again relied on strong driving and crisp wedge play to remain comfortably in front. He said, “I think I played pretty similar to yesterday. I hit driver really well today and the wedges were pretty solid. I’d say the only difference from yesterday was the putts weren’t dropping as much. But it was a pretty solid round overall.”

The Mt. Washington Resort layout has rewarded Gagnon’s aggressive but controlled style of play all week. He commented, “Off the tee the course is pretty forgiving. And into the green, the greens are pretty large which makes it easier to attack the pins and hit it close.”

Tucker Roberto remains Gagnon’s closest challenger after posting an even-par 72 for the second round, finishing with a 36-hole total of 6-under 138. Blake Waidlich sits third at 5-under 139 following a 2-under 70.

The biggest move of the day belonged to Aaron Ackerman, who fired the low round of the second round with a 5-under-par 67, climbing five spots into fourth place at 4-under 140. Charlie Soldau rounds out the top five at 2-under 142, while Zach Nelson (143) and Harry Garland (144) remain within striking distance entering the final round.

Despite holding a comfortable lead, Gagnon knows one more solid performance will be needed to finish the job. He stated, “If I can putt well tomorrow I think I’ll be in a pretty good spot.”

Girls Division

Mady Savary strengthened her grip on the Girls Division championship Tuesday, matching her opening-round 69 with another 3-under-par 69 to reach 6-under-par 138, opening a commanding nine-shot lead over Josie LeFebvre entering the final round.

Savary was once again the only player in the field to finish under par, relying on improved driving and a confident performance on the greens to continue her consistent play. She stated, “My ball striking overall and today, my driver was a lot more consistent so that helped me out as well. And my putting has really improved since my last tournament.”

Savary admitted she was aware of where she stood throughout the day but remained focused on executing one shot at a time saying, “I knew where I was at so I just tried to keep calm and not let the number affect me at all.”

The Mt. Washington Resort course has suited her game throughout the championship, particularly with opportunities to attack the greens. She said, “I think the greens are pretty readable, I’ve been able to get a lot of good reads out of them so I’ve been able to drop some putts. It’s pretty open and getable from the distance so I’m able to take advantage of it.”

LeFebvre sits alone in second at 3-over 147 after an even-par 72, while Hadley Hill occupies third at 15-over 159. Madelyn Giampa made one of the biggest moves of the day, improving two positions after carding a second-round 77 to move into fourth at 22-over 166. Naw Whar and Kendall Wishart are tied for fifth at 26-over 170.

Although Savary enters Wednesday with a significant advantage, her approach won’t change. She said, “If I just stay consistent and calm, I’ll be able to put up a good number again.”

With one round remaining, both division titles will be decided Wednesday at Mt. Washington Resort Golf Club, where Gagnon and Savary will look to complete wire-to-wire victories while the chasing pack attempts to make one final push for the 2026 New Hampshire Junior Amateur Championship.
