Keene, NH – A decade after winning the New Hampshire Amateur Championship, Connor Greenleaf is once again atop the state’s competitive golf scene. The Atkinson Resort & Country Club standout fired a blistering 68 (-4) in Thursday’s final round, the low score of the day, and then birdied the first playoff hole to win the 2025 New Hampshire Stroke Play Championship on Bretwood’s South Course.
Greenleaf finished the 54-hole championship at 2-under-par (72-74-68—214), joining Austin Fox and Nick Sarsfield in a dramatic three-way playoff for the title. On the playoff hole, the par-5 1st hole, Greenleaf found himself greenside in two, chipped it close and made the birdie putt for the title.
“I knew I had to post a pretty low number to get back into it,” said Greenleaf on his thoughts entering the final round. “I felt like I was playing pretty good the last two days, but I don’t feel like I converted.”
Greenleaf’s six birdies and just two bogeys powered his final-round charge, highlighted by a run of three straight birdies on holes 10, 11, and 12. “I started to turn it on on 10, 11 and 12,” he said. “I think a lot of putts were just dropping. It was just one of those days in golf where you kind of get lucky.”
For Greenleaf, the victory marks a long-awaited return to form. “It feels really good, it’s actually been a long time,” he added. “I haven’t been playing too many tournaments the last few years, so it really felt good to get one here and get back in the swing of things.”
Austin Fox of Derryfield Country Club delivered an electric final round with seven birdies, offset by four bogeys. The aggressive play propelled him to a closing 69 (-3) and into the playoff at 2-under, earning a share of runner-up honors. Fox had a strong New Hampshire Stroke Play performance as he was able to improve on his score as the tournament progressed. Capping it off a 69, Fox can hold his head high as he heads into the remainder of the New Hampshire golf season.
Bretwood’s own Nick Sarsfield looked poised to win it all on his home course. After a bogey-free front nine, Sarsfield built a three-shot lead during the final round. But the turning point came on the par-3 16th, where he made a triple bogey, followed by a bogey on 17. He recovered with a clutch up-and-down par save on 18 to stay tied at the top. On the playoff hole, his birdie putt just missed, leaving him tied for second with Fox. Sarsfield, with a galley of support all week, has proven he can compete among the top amateur in the state.
Just two shots back, Ryan Kohler (NH Golf e-Club) surged up the board with a final-round 69 (-3) to finish at even-par 216, where he was joined by James Shattuck (Beaver Meadow GC), who posted rounds of 69-75-72. Bryce Zimmerman (Nashua CC), who had positioned himself well with rounds of 71 and 70, struggled to a closing 76 and finished alone in sixth at 1-over 217.
Andrew Surprenant (Beaver Meadow GC) and Elliot Wallace (Manchester CC) each finished at 2-over 218 to tie for seventh. Surprenant closed strong with a 71, while Wallace held steady with a 74. Will Miele (Nashua CC) opened with two solid rounds but dropped back with a 77 to finish ninth at 3-over 219. Rounding out the top ten were Russell Hamel (Nashua CC), who fired a closing 70, and Jack Fitzgerald (Sky Meadow CC), who posted back-to-back rounds of 72 to both finish at 4-over 220.
The 54-hole championship featured a cut to the low 40 and ties after 36 holes. Bretwood’s South Course challenged players all week, particularly through the notorious “Jurassic Park” stretch of holes 15-17, which again proved pivotal in the final round.
With this victory, Greenleaf not only adds another NH Golf major to his resume but reminds the field that, even after 10 years, he’s still a force to be reckoned with in New Hampshire golf.
New Hampshire Golf would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at Bretwood Golf Course for their hospitality once again. The course was the true star of the show and provided a great test of golf across three days for New Hampshire’s top amateur golfers.
