Rye, NH – Mady Savary has enjoyed a remarkable month of golf, and Monday added another chapter to her impressive summer. Just weeks after capturing the New Hampshire Girls’ Junior Championship and coming off a tie for fifth at the World Teen Championship at Pinehurst Resort, where she recorded what was then a career-best 4-under-par 68 in the second round, the Concord Country Club standout raised the bar once again. Savary fired a personal-best 5-under-par 67 to take a commanding lead after the opening round of the 2026 New Hampshire Women’s Amateur Championship presented by Vigilant Wealth Management at Abenaqui Country Club.
Savary overcame an unusual start and finish to produce one of the finest rounds of her young career. She opened the championship with a bogey and closed it with another, but everything in between was exceptional. She carded seven birdies, including an electrifying stretch of four consecutive birdies on holes 13 through 16, to build an eight-shot advantage over the field after 18 holes.
“Obviously starting out with a bogey was not the best and a couple of my drives on the first few holes were not in good positions, but I was able to make some good putts and hit some good iron shots,” Savary said.
Savary credited her approach play for creating birdie opportunities throughout the day. She said, “Honestly my irons today were what really helped me. I was able to get some nice and close. I was also able to make some putts throughout the round.”
One of the biggest moments of the round came at the par-3 ninth hole, where Savary holed out from a greenside bunker for birdie before turning in 2-under par. She carried that momentum to the back nine, where she caught fire with four consecutive birdies on holes 13 through 16.
She commented on her hole-out on the 9th saying, “That was really nice and I think it helped with motivation.”
Despite holding a nine-shot lead, Savary isn’t looking to change her approach heading into Tuesday’s second round. She commented, “I want to play conservatively aggressive. If there are some pins that are open to getting it close, then I obviously want to go for those. But I want to make sure I’m playing smart golf, that’s what I did today.”
She also credited her caddie with helping her stay patient and committed to her game plan saying, “My caddie was helpful in keeping me in check. Sometimes I wanted to play more aggressively but he helped me stay calm and focused on what I really needed to do.”
As she looks to build on the best competitive round of her career, Savary’s focus remains simple. She said, “I’m just hoping to continue to play smart and hopefully make some putts tomorrow as well,” she said.
Behind Savary, June Doerr of Abenaqui Country Club and Teagan Nadeau of Cochecho Country Club are tied for second at 4-over-par 76. Amy Dickison of Breakfast Hill Golf Club and Kat Bordeau of Canterbury Woods Country Club share fourth at 6-over-par 78, while Dana Harrity of Abenaqui Country Club sits alone in sixth at 7-over-par 79.
The second round of the 2026 New Hampshire Women’s Amateur Championship presented by Vigilant Wealth Management begins Tuesday at Abenaqui Country Club, with the champion to be crowned Wednesday following the final 18 holes of the 54-hole stroke play championship.
