Greenland, NH – The road to the 122nd New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Davis & Towle Insurance with support from Johnnie Walker officially started Monday at Breakfast Hill Golf Club, where 19 players secured their place in the state’s most prestigious amateur event. Facing firm conditions and a challenging layout, the cut line settled at +8 (79), with a 5-for-4 playoff determining the final qualifiers into the championship.
Topping the leaderboard were Connor Allard (The Golf Club of New England) and Daniel Barrett (NH Golf e-Club), each carding a steady one-over-par 72 to share medalist honors. Both Allard and Barrett had their fair share of birdies and bogeys, but their 72’s were good enough to lead the pack in the first qualifier of the season.
Just behind was Grey Gagnon (Pease Golf Course), finishing solo third at 73 (+2) and rounding out the top five was Jon Tregea (603 Brewery) at 74 (+3) and Michael Roy (Exeter Country Club) with a 75 (+4).
Six players shot 76 (+5) to punch their tickets into the Championship, while another group of four players at 77 (+6) avoided the cut and the playoff. A sudden-death playoff among those at +8 determined the final qualifiers into the New Hampshire Amateur. Nate Stevens, Thomas Manning, Brian DeKoning and Alex Jefferson claimed the final qualifying spots with smiles on their faces as they will see their names on the leaderboard of the 122nd New Hampshire Amateur Championship.
This marks the first step towards the 122nd New Hampshire Amateur Championship, set to take place next month at Rochester Country Club. The next stop on the road to Rochester will be Wednesday, June 18th on the South Course at Bretwood Golf Course.
NH Golf would like to thank the entire staff at Breakfast Hill Golf Club for hosting our first qualifier of the season. Despite the rain this spring, the course is in great condition and provided a fair test for the qualifying field.
