MANCHESTER, N.H. – The 54-hole Mike Ryan Memorial concluded Wednesday at Derryfield Country Club, with four champions crowned following an eventful final round that featured a 90-minute thunderstorm delay and dramatic finishes across multiple divisions.
Sawyer Drummond claimed the Boys Elite title, Marc Giampa captured the Boys Prep championship, Josie Lefebvre won the Girls Championship, and Colt Runyon earned the Birdie Division title.
Boys Elite
The most dramatic finish of the championship came in the Boys Elite Division, where Sawyer Drummond completed a remarkable comeback to earn medalist honors at 10-over-par 220.
After opening the tournament with a share of the first-round lead, Drummond slipped two shots behind Zach Nelson following Tuesday’s rain-soaked second round. Wednesday’s final round provided even more adversity, as Drummond stumbled to 4-over through his opening four holes while struggling to find the fairway. “I was able to turn it around after the first four holes,” Drummond said. “I started out 4 over, and I couldn’t really get off the tee. Once I was able to get off the tee, I was able to turn the day around.”
Drummond steadied himself over the remainder of the round, making birdies on the ninth, 10th and 15th holes to offset early mistakes. His birdie on the ninth proved especially important. He remembered, “A big moment was the birdie on Hole 9. I had a 100-yard shot into the wind. I was able to choke up on my 54 and put it to three feet.”
The championship wasn’t decided until the final hole. Drummond did not regain the lead until the 18th hole, the 54th and final hole of the tournament, completing a dramatic comeback after beginning the day chasing Nelson.
Chase Connor finished runner-up at 12-over-par 222 after closing with the low round of the day, a 1-over-par 71. Nelson, who entered the final round with a two-shot advantage after consecutive rounds of 72, finished third at 13-over-par 223 following a final-round 79.
Boys Prep
Marc Giampa successfully defended the lead he claimed during Tuesday’s second round, posting a final-round 8-over-par 78 to finish at 25-over-par 235 and secure the Boys Prep championship. Giampa opened the week with an 81 before making his move with a second-round 76 to overtake first-round leader Brax Stevens. He closed out the tournament with a steady final round highlighted by birdies on the 13th and 17th holes.
Stevens finished second at 33-over-par 243, while Owen Torosian and Aidan Robichaud shared third at 37-over-par 247.
Girls Championship
Josie Lefebvre completed a wire-to-wire victory in the Girls Championship Division, finishing at 29-over-par 239.
After building commanding leads through the opening two rounds, Lefebvre weathered a challenging final day to secure the championship. Her final round included a birdie on the 11th hole, but difficult stretches on the front nine and late in the round were not enough to threaten her overall lead.
Lefebvre’s opening-round 74 ultimately proved to be the foundation of her championship, as she led after all three rounds to claim the Girls Championship title.
Birdie Division
Colt Runyon capped off an impressive week by winning the Birdie Division with a 23-over-par total of 125 over 27 holes.
Holding a 15-shot lead entering the final round, Runyon focused on staying aggressive despite his comfortable advantage. “I came into the day up 15 strokes, so I just wanted to go out there and have fun,” Runyon said. “I wanted to play aggressively out there.”
Runyon credited improved driving and solid putting for his success throughout the week. “My driver was a lot better than usual this week, and I was able to putt well on these tricky greens,” he said.
He also embraced one of Derryfield’s signature risk-reward holes. “It was tough to nail down the speeds on these greens, but I found it fun to cut the corner on Hole 9.”
Despite winning comfortably, Runyon is already looking ahead. “I’m hoping to shoot under a 39 at the next event I play,” he said. “My best round this week was a 39, and I just want to do better than that.” Jacob Tay finished second at 42-over-par 144, followed by Ryan Collupy at 56-over-par 158.
Championship Complete
Despite a 90-minute weather delay interrupting the final round, the Mike Ryan Memorial concluded with exciting finishes across all four divisions. Drummond’s late rally in the Boys Elite Division provided the championship’s signature moment, overtaking the lead on the tournament’s final hole after trailing entering the day. Giampa completed his climb from second after Round 1 to Boys Prep champion, Lefebvre led the Girls Championship from start to finish, and Runyon converted his sizable final-round advantage into the Birdie Division title, bringing three days of stroke play at Derryfield Country Club to a memorable close.
