Newport, NH – A steady round from Spencer Coronis secured him the top spot at the New Hampshire Amateur Qualifier held Wednesday at Newport Golf Club. Coronis carded a 3-over-par 74 to lead the field and earn medalist honors, joining five other players in advancing to next month’s 122nd New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Davis & Towle Insurance with support from Johnnie Walker at Rochester Country Club.
Coronis’s round included three birdies, nine pars, and six bogeys. He made the turn at 1-over-par 36 after back-to-back birdies on holes 7 and 8 helped him recover from two bogeys earlier on the front nine. His back nine featured one more birdie, on the par-4 12th, and four bogeys, including two within his last three holes, for a 2-over 38 closing out his round.
Despite some missed opportunities, Coronis kept a clean card on the par 5s, playing them at even-par for the day, and gained ground on some par 3s and 4s with solid play through the middle stretch of the round. He now looks forward to competing against the best in the state in just under two weeks.
Two players finished one stroke back of Coronis at 4-over-par 75, Albie Powers (Keene CC) and Joe Brown (Beaver Meadow GC), both earning their way into the championship field. Joe Hebert (Sky Meadow CC) secured a spot with a 76, followed by Dave Kane (Derryfield CC) at 77 and Griffin Barbaro (Stonebridge CC) at 79.
The 122nd New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Davis & Towle Insurance with support from Johnnie Walker will be contested July 7–12 at Rochester Country Club, bringing together the state’s top amateur talent for a week of stroke and match play competition. The next qualifier will take place at Canterbury Woods Country Club on Thursday, June 26th.
