Dominant Wins & Dramatic Finishes Headline Match Play Semifinals

Posted: August 11, 2025

Newport, NH – The Semifinals of the 2025 Match Play Championships at Passaconaway Country Club delivered plenty of drama and standout performances, setting the stage for two highly anticipated finals next month at the Golf Club of New England.

In the Mid-Amateur Division, top seed Jalen Rines wasted no time asserting control over Robert Boulanger. Rines opened with a blistering stretch of three straight birdies to go 3up after just three holes. By the turn, he had stretched the lead to 6-up, and he sealed the victory in commanding fashion on the 11th hole for an 8 & 7 win.

The other semifinal featured second seed Connor Greenleaf against defending champion Harvin Groft in a tightly contested duel. Groft struck first with a birdie on the opening hole, but Greenleaf quickly countered, winning the next three holes to take a 2up lead. At the turn, Greenleaf held a 3up advantage, and one of the match’s defining moments came at the par-3 13th. After missing the green, Greenleaf chipped in for birdie while Groft, who had stuck his tee shot close, made his putt. Groft battled to extend the match, but Greenleaf closed it out on the 17th for a 2 & 1 win. The victory sets up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown between Rines and Greenleaf in the championship match next month.

On the Senior Division side, Peter Keilty and defending champion Danny Arvanitis staged a thrilling match. Keilty stormed out to a 5up lead after a dominant front nine, but Arvanitis clawed his way back, capitalizing on Keilty’s miscues to square the match by winning the 18th hole. The battle went to extra holes, where Keilty ultimately prevailed in 19 holes to earn his place in the final.

Keilty will face Dave Larrivee, who topped John Mumford in the other semifinal. Mumford took the early lead with a birdie on the first hole, but Larrivee answered immediately. After trading holes on Nos. 4 and 5, the match remained tied through seven. Larrivee grabbed the lead on the 8th hole and never relinquished it, surging to a 4up advantage through 13 before closing out the match on the 15th for a 4 & 3 victory.

The finals of both divisions will take place next month at the Golf Club of New England, where the Mid-Amateur and Senior Match Play Champions will be crowned.
