North Conway, NH – It was a soggy but unforgettable finish at North Conway Country Club as Eric Emeneau of Souhegan Woods Golf Club captured his first-ever New Hampshire Golf title, winning the 2025 New Hampshire Senior Championship. With a birdie on his closing hole of the championship, Emeneau was able to extend his margin of victory and further prove why he is a worthy champion.
Heavy rain blanketed the final round on Thursday, forcing a 40-minute delay due to puddling greens. But through it all, Emeneau stayed steady, backing up his opening-round 71 with another even-par 71 to finish at 142 (E) for the championship. Across the two days, he posted a remarkably consistent scorecard, recording two birdies and two bogeys in each round.
“Today was classic rain golf,” Emeneau said. “You just want to make a lot of pars. I drove it well and I aimed for the middle of the green. My putting was really good, my speed was fantastic, nothing went in, but I scared the hole a lot and had a lot of tap-in pars. That was the difference – I didn’t have to work too hard.”
Emeneau closed out his victory in style, striking his best wedge of the tournament into the 18th green and sinking his longest putt of the week for birdie. “That was the longest putt I made in two days and it was the best wedge I hit in two days. Everything about that hole went as I had hoped,” he said.
For Emeneau, he is typically a golf with his eyes on the leaderboard but today was different. With the forecasted rainy conditions, he chose not to look at it. However, a 40-minute delay at a time where he had the lead forced his hand. He said, “I broke down and looked at it – it made the last three holes a lot more interesting.”
Depsite the pressure he felt after play resumed, he knew that if he stuck to his game plan of hitting the fairways and aiming for the middle of the green, it would be enough to get it done. This win marks Emeneau’s first New Hampshire Golf title. He said, “It feels fantastic to win. I know I can play this kind of golf and especially to do it under these conditions, I’m super happy with how it turned out.”
The win didn’t come easily, as he had to fend off a strong group of contenders, including five-time Senior Player of the Year Craig Steckowych of Portsmouth Country Club and former champion Phil Pleat of Nashua Country Club. While Steckowych wasn’t able to add the Senior title to his impressive résumé, he still finished tied for second place alongside Rick Moreau of Sky Meadow Country Club at 146 (+4), four strokes behind Emeneau. Pleat, who opened with a 70, slipped back in the final round but still claimed a share of seventh.
New Hampshire Golf would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at North Conway Country Club for hosting this championship event. While Mother Nature threw a curve ball, the entire staff stepped up to ensure the tournament could get completed.
