Former Champ Julianna Megan Surges to Lead at NH Women’s Amateur; Rising Star Cassidy Gallant in the Hunt

Posted: July 28, 2025

Manchester, NH – With a firm handle on the course and a keen understanding of tournament pressure, Julianna Megan of Hoodkroft Country Club leads the 2025 New Hampshire Women’s Amateur Championship presented by Vigilant Wealth Management after firing a 3‑over‑par 73 in Monday’s opening round at Derryfield Country Club. Just three shots back, with 36 holes left in the championship, sits Cassidy Gallant of Windham Country Club who fired a 76 (+6) for a solo second position coming out of the first round.

As the 2022 champion, who prevailed in a playoff at Concord Country Club, and last year’s runner-up, Megan brought experience and composure to a day when the par‑70 setup was playing demanding. She said, “I didn’t get off the tee great today but it was fine enough. My irons felt good and my putting was on fire today so that helped.”

Her round featured birdies on the par-4 4th and par-5 17th, along with five bogeys. Megan navigated Derryfield’s compact layout with a steady 35 on the front and a 38 on the back. Having played Derryfield a number of times growing up in tournament play, she stated, “I knew that this was a course that’s gettable, so I just wanted to hit greens and fairways, get up and down, and just kind of grind.”

“I thought I could maybe go low, but I didn’t have many expectations coming in”, continued Megan. “I just wanted to shoot in the 70s.”

She also noted the challenge of Derryfield’s elevation shifts saying, “The elevation with club selection is pretty hard, but I knew that I could make a putt here and there, and I did a little bit today, so that was good.”

Having done what she set out to do in the opening round, Megan sits in a familiar and comfortable position with 36 holes left in the competition. Three shots behind Megan is Cassidy Gallant of Windham Country Club, who opened with a solid 6-over-par 76. Gallant, heading into her freshman season at Bryant University this fall, showed poise throughout the day, making birdies at the par-4 4th and downhill par-4 13th.

Gallant’s round included several gritty up-and-downs, as she tallied eight bogeys but stayed composed to post 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine. Her steady play puts her squarely in the hunt with 36 holes remaining.

Just behind Gallant are Caroline Fang (Concord Country Club) and Mady Savary (Beaver Meadow Golf Course), both tied for third at 77 (+7). Savary was in hunt last year and ended up finishing runner-up along with Megan to Carys Fennessy.  Two additional players, Delaney Nadeau and Corey Richardson sit within five shots of Megan while three more players, Kat Bordeau, Josie LeFebvre and Sarah DeRuisseaux, are seven shots back of Megan.

The second round begins Tuesday morning, with the top players battling for position and all chasing down Julianna Megan for the title.
