MANCHESTER, N.H. – With one round remaining in the Mike Ryan Memorial at Derryfield Country Club, Zach Nelson has moved into sole possession of the Boys Elite lead, Marc Giampa has taken over the Boys Prep lead, while Colt Runyon and Josie Lefebvre continue to lead the Birdie and Girls Championship divisions following Tuesday’s second round.

Boys Elite

After beginning the day tied for the lead, Nelson carded a second-round 2-over-par 72 to reach 4-over-par for the championship, giving him a two-stroke advantage entering the final round.

Nelson once again relied on consistent ball striking throughout the day, recording one birdie against three bogeys while navigating difficult scoring conditions that included heavy rain for much of the Boys Elite competition. “My ball striking and approaches felt pretty good today,” Nelson said. “I was hitting all of my spots.”

The biggest test of Nelson’s round came on the par-5 16th hole, where an out-of-bounds tee shot threatened to derail his momentum. Instead, he minimized the damage and kept his championship on track. He recalled, “I was obviously bummed out to hit it OB on Hole 16, but I recovered well. I was able to put a wedge to 10 feet and make the putt for bogey. By parring my last two holes, I was able to limit the damage and not drop any more strokes.”

Rain made conditions increasingly difficult throughout the afternoon, particularly over the closing holes, but Nelson refused to let the weather change his approach. “The rain definitely made it harder,” he said. “My hands were soaked for the entirety of the back nine, but nothing about the way I thought through and executed my swings actually changed.”

After sharing the first-round lead with Sawyer Drummond, Nelson will now have the opportunity to play from the final pairing with the championship on the line. He said, “Going into the final round with the lead, I am just going to keep playing my game and not change anything. I know I am going to make some mistakes out there, but I just have to stay locked in.”

Girls Championship

Josie Lefebvre remains in control of the Girls Championship despite a second-round 11-over-par 81. Her 36-hole total of 15-over-par continues to give her a comfortable lead heading into the championship’s final round.

After opening the tournament with a 4-over-par 74 and building a sizable advantage, Lefebvre successfully protected her lead through a more difficult second day and remains in strong position to capture the title.

Boys Prep

Marc Giampa moved into the lead in the Boys Prep Division after carding a second-round 6-over-par 76, improving to 17-over-par through 36 holes.

After opening the championship one stroke behind first-round leader Brax Stevens, Giampa wasted little time making his move, birdieing the opening hole before settling into a consistent round that vaulted him into first place entering Wednesday’s final round.

Giampa’s steady play over the second round erased the one-shot deficit he faced after Monday’s opening round, putting him in position to compete for the championship over the final 18 holes.

Birdie Division

Colt Runyon maintained his lead in the Birdie Division with another steady nine-hole performance.

After opening the championship at 7-over-par, Runyon followed with a 5-over-par round Tuesday to improve to 12-over-par overall. His round was highlighted by a birdie on the second hole, helping him remain atop the standings entering the final day of competition.

Final Round Set

With two rounds complete, the championship now shifts to its final day, with players flighted according to their position on the leaderboard. Nelson enters Wednesday with sole possession of the Boys Elite lead, Giampa takes newfound momentum into the final round after moving atop the Boys Prep standings, while Lefebvre and Runyon remain in control of the Girls Championship and Birdie divisions, respectively. Four division champions will be crowned following Wednesday’s final 18 holes of stroke play.
