Portsmouth, NH – Nick Schlosstein of The Golf Club of New England and Scott Rolph of Pease Golf Course earned co-medalist honors at the New Hampshire Amateur Championship Qualifier at Pease Golf Course, each carding 2-under-par 69 to lead the field of 62 competitors. Eighteen players earned their place in the 123rd New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Davis & Towle Insurance taking place at Cochecho Country beginning next Monday, July 6th.
Under ideal playing conditions on a beautiful summer day, players took advantage of the opportunity to qualify for New Hampshire’s premier amateur championship, producing several impressive rounds on the par-71 layout. Schlosstein put together a steady, balanced round that featured birdies on the opening two par-5 holes and another on the par-5 15th. His lone blemish came with a bogey on the par-4 7th hole, as he turned in 35 before closing with a bogey-free 34 on the back nine to finish at 2-under-par.
Rolph matched Schlosstein’s total in a different fashion. After making the turn at 1-over-par 37, the Pease Golf Course member caught fire on the inward nine. Birdies at the par-3 11th, par-5 15th, and par-4 17th fueled a 3-under-par 32 on the back side, allowing him to erase the early deficit and finish alongside Schlosstein as co-medalist at 69.
Dylan Tooch of Cochecho Country Club finished alone in third after posting a 1-under-par 70, while Jabe Felch of CandiaOaks, Marcus Green of Portsmouth Country Club, and John Flynn of Cochecho Country Club shared fourth place at even-par 71.
Ben Knott of Baker Hill Golf Club and Ben Merrick of Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club tied for seventh at 1-over-par 72. John Duarte (Passaconaway Country Club), Peter Solbo (Cochecho Country Club), Casey Torname (Atkinson Resort & Country Club), Matthew Hughes (603 Brewery), and David Peck (Cochecho Country Club) were among the players tied for ninth at 2-over-par 73.
With only 18 qualifying positions available from a field of 62 players, every stroke carried added significance throughout the day. Strong scoring and ideal weather combined to create a competitive qualifier, with Schlosstein and Rolph ultimately sharing medalist honors after matching rounds of 69 (-2).
By the end of the day, 18 players had secured their spots in the 123rd New Hampshire Amateur Championship presented by Davis & Towle Insurance, with those shooting 76 (+5) rounding out the championship field.
