Concord, NH— Under blue skies and steady pressure, the pairing of Andrew Surprenant and James Shattuck delivered a remarkable performance at this year’s Fourball Match Play Qualifying Round with a team total of 8-under-par 64, capturing the number one seed going into match play. Their chemistry and course management proved to be the perfect combination, as they edged out a tightly packed leaderboard in a showcase of consistency, grit, and timely scoring.
Surprenant led the way with a brilliant 66, highlighted by a pair of back-to-back birdies on holes 3 and 4, and a hot start on the back nine, where he birdied holes 12, 13, and 14. His balanced card of 33-33 underscored a steady rhythm from tee to green.
Shattuck, meanwhile, provided crucial support throughout the round, carding a 77 that included a steady 36 on the front nine. His par saves and timely approach shots, particularly on holes 5, 6, and 9 helped keep the momentum alive. Together, the team avoided major mistakes and maximized scoring opportunities with a clean, complementary performance.
Securing the second seed in the championship flight is the team of Brett Wilson and Dan Mulkern. Wilson delivered a clean and steady round, highlighted by a back-nine 33, including a birdie on hole 3. His consistent play was instrumental in maintaining scoring momentum. Mulkern and Wilson both carded birdies on par-4s and had a solid short game, allowing the pair to avoid big numbers and maintain pressure on the leaders throughout the round.
Last year’s Inaugural Champions, Mat Gover and Russell Hamel, secured the fourth seed. Russell Hamel posted a strong 69, featuring a front-nine 32 with birdies on holes 2, 3, and 7, and steady play on the back nine for a 37. His round was highlighted by precision on par-3s and consistent putting. Mathew Gover carded a 71, also starting hot with a 32 on the front nine, including birdies on holes 1, 3, and 6. His back nine 39 included a few bogeys, but he remained composed and delivered key pars to keep the team in contention.
Match Play will begin on June 4th at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
