Keene, NH – Jason Thresher of West Suffield, Connecticut, added to his growing legacy at the New Hampshire Open Championship presented by NBT Bank, capturing his third career NH Open title with a final-round 2-under-par 70 to finish at 13-under 203. The victory puts Thresher in elite company as a three-time NH Open champion, with previous wins in 2018 and 2024.
While the North Course at Bretwood Golf Club offered calm conditions for the final round, compared to the first two days, Thresher had to dig deep on the back nine to hold off charging contenders Chris Fosdick (Middlefield, CT) and Harrison Shih (Jacksonville, FL), who both finished one shot back at 12-under 204.
“Today was a little bit different for me,” said Thresher. “There was no wind versus having a lot of wind the first two days. It should have played a little easier, but I just didn’t have a feel on the greens, and I kept leaving putts short. But I was still striking it well.”
After a bogey at the par-4 10th, Thresher regrouped and caught fire with three consecutive birdies on holes 11, 12, and 13 to regain the outright lead. He commented, “I had a little hot streak on the back nine. I bogeyed 10 and then switched balls because I wasn’t making any putts, and then I made three birdies in a row.”
Thresher revealed that he avoided checking the leaderboard until the final stretch, saying, “I didn’t look at the leaderboard until the last three or four holes, but I knew with the weather today I just needed to make birdies and even par today for me wasn’t going to get it done, so I just tried to keep pushing.”
Despite his experience in contention, the nerves were still present. Thresher, who has won three Massachusetts Opens and now three New Hampshire Opens, said, “I still feel the nerves. I’ve been in this position a lot of times now, but I go through the motions and it just works for me.”
Now adding his third NH Open title to his collection, Thresher leaves Bretwood with a smile on his face unlike in 2023 when this tournament was held at Bretwood and Thresher missed the cut. He has gained his redemption.
Fosdick carded a strong 67 (-5) to tie for second alongside Shih, who notched his third straight 68. Shih competed in the 2022 NH Open at Breakfast Hill Golf Club, finishing in the same position as today, runner-up. Jimmy Jones (Tampa, FL) surged with a 67 to finish fourth at 11-under, and Shawn Warren (Falmouth, ME) recorded the lowest round of the day, a 6-under 66—to claim fifth.
Among the eight amateurs who made the cut, Hunter Duncan stood out with a superb final-round 67 (-5) to finish at 214 (-2) and secure low amateur honors. After opening with a 77 (+5), Duncan bounced back in a big way with rounds of 70 and 67. His final round scorecard featured seven birdies and just two bogeys, including red numbers on holes 1, 2, 5, 10, 14, 17 and 18.
